Out of the fiery furnace : research [manuscript]. 1977-1978.

This research material was compiled in 1977-1978 by Willard C. Lacy, former Professor of Geology and Mining Engineering, University of Arizona, as a result of a commission from C.R.A. Ltd., Melbourne. A television series, shown on the A.B.C. in 1984, and a book were based on this research manuscript. The book, "Out of the fiery furnace: the impact of metals on the history of mankind" by Robert Raymond (South Melbourne, Macmillan, 1984).

Journalist, writer, television and film producer. Robert Alwyn Raymond, born in 1922 in Beaudesert, Queensland, began his career as a journalist on Fleet Street, and was a war correspondent during World War II. After working in Ghana Raymond returned to Australia in 1957 to join the ABC, and in 1961, with Michael Charlton, launched Four Corners.
